Shih tzu hair do
Hi everyone
I am currently go threw the face in eyes top knot tiny struggle to put up kinda stage right now I know it does not last long but what a pain
Anyway my question is how often should he have a bath I do mags every two weeks but he has fluff pup hair that seems not to get a dirty as mags ?
Also do ppl cut the hair between the toes and pads ?
And one more humping ignore ? Normally Henry who does nothing and walks away
Maggie it's a full on bite and hump and pull hair from her tail maggie gets pissed off but does not fight back just barks loud in his face . I was concerned as Henry did come to mags rescue and stamped on Percy
I kNow it's all power top dog stuff going on but maggie can't stand up for her self and been limping more he grabs her hair and pulls her around like a doll I have stepped in he will stop so has Henry.
He defo a charecter

Re: Shih tzu hair do
He sounds like a little minx!! sorry had to smile when you were describing his behaviour...it sounded very familiar. When Archie was young puppy trainer told us to ignore the humping, its just them getting excited. Archie would also really annoy our cat and wouldnt leave him along, we were advised to distract him, which we did, he lost interest in the cat eventually. We had a special toy which we used, it was just a fleece tug toy, but it was a special toy because it only came out as a a distraction ie it didnt get put in his toy boy to play with when he wanted to. We still use it now. When he is being naughty or refusing to come in from the garden, we show it to him and bingo!! we are back in business. Re grooming in between pads, our groomer does this each time he goes, she has done this since he was a pup. Dont know if this helps at all. He sounds like a fab cute cheeky chap.

Re: Shih tzu hair do
Liz you could try rattling a tin with stones in to distract Percy when he mis-behaves, eventually he will give up. I tend to think it his male thing in him maybe. But nip it in the bud now to make him realise you are the boss. Yes I lip between the pads if they are getting a bit long. Mind you mine are both ticklish on their pads.!!
Re: Shih tzu hair do
Hi Liz,
I bath Contessa once a week, if you bath Maggs every two weeks then thats ok too.
I clip the hair on the pads and inbetween the toes, but only the hair you can see on top of the toes, I don't go right down the toe if you know what I mean. I also cut the hair around the paw, so no hair touches the floor, and stops them from slipping on the floor. I also clip the nails when needed.

Re: Shih tzu hair do
The groomer cuts archie's hair around his willy. I dont know how you manage this in full coat though, we have short puppy cut so it looks OK. I remember when he was a baby, he would get a wee stain on his belly. I would wash his bits every day otherwise it smells. It got better as he grew a little bigger and his belly wasnt so near the floor. We still get wet widgy when he has been out for a pee. Its funny how you just dont mind these things and how they become part of who they are. Since we got him our desire for a clean and tidy house has long gone!!! just as you mop the floors he arrrives from the garden with a face full of mud from digging up something he buried and/or plants you have just planted. He then usually proceeds to walk the mud over the clean floor and then onto the cream carpet. I'd not change a thing though! life was rather dull pre shih tzu!

Re: Shih tzu hair do
I wouldn't use the stones as it affects the other dogs too it is negative training which I have advised in the past but usually for something like aggression. The toy distraction is better or just a firm no and remove him from mags as it's not fair on her. Also try to stop him from pulling and tugging the hair
I am going through this a bit at the moment with molly as she has just started to be the puppy she was obviously not allowed to be so I can sympathise.
I wouldn't cut the hair on his willy short as this will guide the urine away from the body. Once he starts to cock his leg his tummy won't get in such a mess x

Re: Shih tzu hair do
Sorry didn't see this response
Maggie is always getting clumps of hair pulled out I find it in his mouth but may I add maggie wants to play and will start off my givin the bottom in the face running around flaying routine. At the moment it's bark bark bark at each other drives me nuts then off around the table they go.
I do tell off for ragging her around.
Wee on the belly is only ignoring because he is making wet spots on stuff and it's smell so have to keep wiping
When do they start to cock the leg as Henry does not but I guess that's because he had his boy bits off
