Shihtzu Lover here!

Hi Everyone!  

I am delighted to be here.
I am owned currently by two older basset hounds and have a strong interest in the Shih-tzu breed.
I am a retired dog groomer/boarding kennel worker due to a health condition.  
I am very interested in the shihtzu breed & this will be my next breed of doggy companion.
I am considering giving a home to a male shihtzu, ideally gold and white from puppy age up to three/four years old. Providing can get along with my older spayed girlies.They are very laid back but love their walks.
I prefer to see a shihtzu in its stunning long coat & understand only too well how much grooming is required with this breed. I have known of many owners who opt for a shorter more easier to manage coat style, which can look cute too.
I have a lot of time on my hands these days so I guess im looking for a lap doggy who enjoys a walk.
I live in a village on the outskirts of Ashford in the South East area of Kent. With my partner and two basset hounds.

Hi TracyDi and welcome to whispers, it's great to have you here.

We are a very friendly bunch of shih tzu addicts and love chatting about their antics and mischief. They are a fantastic breed and will keep you entertained for hours. They may only be a small breed but they have massive personalities and once you have one you will fall totally in love with the breed. There shouldn't be any problem with your girls and a shih tzu as they are a friendly breed and love company. If you have a look round the forum you will see that a lot of us keep our dogs in full coat and once you get in the routine it doesn't really take much more to keep them that way than cut short. I love seeing them running along with their coats blowing behind them, it looks lovely.

Welcome to the forum,I would highly recommend a Shih tzu to anyone. They are beautiful looking fur babies, and so well behaved.If you start to groom them when there a puppy,then grooming is so easy,and you both enjoy it.

I have groomed a few before when I was doing dog grooming and just love their delightful cheeky personalities.   
There is one black and white male shihtzu around here where I live and hes absolutley gorgeous, but hes much smaller than the ones I was used to seeing. Hes got an amazing personality though, hes unsure when you first approach him but once down to his level hes more than happy to recieve a good stroke and some fuss. Delighful, they have such amazing grace & elegance in full coat, they are just lovely and I think the breed has already stealed my heart.  LOL!

Hi TracyDi, Im new here too...after losing my cockers am looking for more of a companion dog and the shih tzu looks lovely. Am currently gathering knowledge and love this site   everyone is so lovely and helpful.  I live in Kent too, near Maidstone x

Hi Liz, thank you for welcoming me to this wonderful forum.
The shihtzu's are a gorgeous breed I must admit whatever coat style they are in I just like to see the long coat. I do like the style of the face when a shihtzu is trimmed into a shorter cut too.
It is just lovely to talk to people on here.

You lucky girl I always wanted another Shih Tzu but wasn't allowed. Looking forward to seeing photo's of your little girl/boy.

It will be worth the wait, I can assure you. There is only one thing you have to do and that is enjoy your gorgeous new fur baby, they don't stay young for long and the time will fly by in a flash. Don't forget to take masses of photos for us to see as well. You know how we all love our cute puppy fix.

the shihtzu joining me is a male two years old. hopefully picking up next week or the week after. gold and white. hes a short stocky one.

He is known to be good with other dogs, both larger than him and small like him. He enjoys to be groomed/clipped I'm told and often lays down during grooming and falls to sleep. Although not overly keen on his nails being trimmed. But I'm sure I'll win him round somehow. He is quite obedient other than that and of course not wishing to be left for long periods of time, which is obviously not what I'd do anyway.
He has had a summer clip recently due to the hot weather, so i'll be waiting for the hair to grow back nice and long. I am very excited awaiting the collection of him. I will post some photos once he is home with us.

He doesnt seem to have turned up nose however......mmmm.......

although I prefer the tip tilted nose as it gives a better expression in my opinion noses in the breed can be either tip tilted or straight.  Where are you haveing him from?? Is eh a rescue?
