Got the thumbs up for raw food Empty Got the thumbs up for raw food

Post by sands-62 Fri Jul 26, 2013 2:48 pm

Hi guys, just got back from taking Mali for her Booster and Karen our lovely vet was very pleased with her. She said her coat was looking very good, looked in her mouth she still has a bit of Plaque on her back teeth. She then weighed her and said 'ooh she's put a little weight on'. It was then i told her with a bit of trepidation that I started to feed them both a raw food diet and chicken wings. And she was in a agreement that Mali was looking good. I don't like them to put too much on so be careful. Karen also said to watch for bacteria because of raw meat but I told her that it is from a company who specialise in this not just any old place. I then swapped the dogs over and had Tasha weighed and she has actually lost a little around half a kilo so she is 8kg which she was thrilled with because I think Tasha was in danger of getting overweight, which may explain why Tasha slipped her harness when we were out last week.
One other little thing I found a little lump on Mali's leg which karen popped a needle in and extracted some puss. She didn't know why they get them but said her German Shepherd has one now and again.

Great news - and Josh has gone back up from 7.4 Kg to 8.2 Kg in the short time he has been eating Wolftucker so I am very pleased with him too.  He has some tartar and may need to go in for a dental which I suppose isn't bad for an 8 year old but he hadn't had anything much last year which sort of hints that the Prize Choice freeflow not only was not feeding him but not that good for teeth either.... it has to be full of water from the way it thaws which I can see now with the wolftucker and the difference between the two.  He was always pestering me for crackerjacks as well...he still asks me for them now but most of the time when I offer him one he just sniffs it and then walks away!  That tells me he is a very content little man and while the wolftucker is a little expensive compared to others... it is worth paying that bit more just for the quality Smile

What I have found with raw food is that you don't seem to have thin dogs (if they are getting the right nutrients) and you don't seem to have fat dogs either...

Glad you are finding it working for your girls Very Happy xxxx

Glad to hear that both your dogs thrive on raw food! I started with it when Javari was 6 months and haven't looked back since! Kiran wasn't on puppyfood but grew up on raw food as well and you both have seen what a lovely bright well build boy that is!teddy hug

Thanks Houkje yes both Mali and Tasha are doing well on it. I am just trying to get a bit more variety and a little bit of Offal in their diet now. Exactly what do you feed Javari and Kiran? Mali & Tasha are having Beef& tripe , Chicken & Tripe or chicken on it's own. Sometimes the Natures Menu Nuggets and a Chicken Wing a couple of times a week. I was very pleased that my vet didn't disagree with raw, as most vets seem to over here.

I have placed an order with Naturally Healthy Dogs who supply DAF food and it's coming on Thursday. They deliver in this area once every 4wks, so I'm bound to have not ordered enough, but want to make sure that Daisy is okay with the food. I still have nuggets, freeflow mince and tripe and also various raw meaty bones in the freezer. Now I am getting her some beef chunks, tripe chunks, heart chunks, venison chunks & chicken chunks. Also a few packs of minces so that I can see what the texture is before I order a large amount, so for now I am just getting tripe & fish, beef & tripe and turkey mince. Also getting some dried liver and some dried liver treats too. Have no idea what the delivery charge is as I didn't ask.

Wow Lyn I think I am going to pack my girls suitcases and send them on the train to you for a week. What a lovely lot of food Daisy is going to enjoy.I have just e mailed Naturally Healthy Dogs to see if they do a courier service, I cannot see anything on their website that says they do. But don't ask and you don't get.At least that way you can get a good choice of foods for Daisy. I have spent this morning working out how much  and how long the food is costing me. Between them they are eating 260grms a day -100grms Mali and 160grms Tasha in two meals. 14 x 454grm blocks a month at £10.92. So as much as I would like to feed Wolf Tucker it is about double and there is no doubt that they are enjoying what they are eating now, I cannot justify the amount. so I reckon that I have enough food until the end of October, I also have some bags of Nuggets too and I will order some Lamb , Turkey and chunks of some other things that should give them a variety. Berriewoods also do Freeflow too as in their own food which would be good for the Offal as I wouldn't need too much of that. I will also wait and see what NHD come back with before I order anything.

Right I am off to see what this new baby boy is?
