Re: foster baby coming to stay
Jas is very poorly and the vets have her in hospital at the moment. I don't know what is wrong and she has gone downhill so fast. I am very very upset and terrified that I have lost her. They are trying to stabilise her and then maybe do some tests to find out what is going on but it doesn't look very good... she was unable to stand by the time I got her to the surgery and she was virtually out of it!
Re: foster baby coming to stay
What can I say its so sad. At least she is being well cared for at the vets and we know they will do everthing they can . Wish I could be with you to give a really heartfelt hug. With all my love Tuppence

Re: foster baby coming to stay
I have just finished talking to the rescue owner and it seems that the vets are thinking that Jas has porto-systemic (liver) shunt which they did think initially in the rescue but then she came good and displayed no symptoms since the first couple of days they had her and while she has been with me she has been a naughty, cheeky, cocky little puppy full of energy and fun! I have to admit to being distraught at this news as I only have one experience of the condition but Eileen has told me that they have had several dogs with this condition and have one little schnauzer at the moment who since diagnosis has responded well to treatment and has only one episode where she needed to be hospitalised since diagnosis. The plan is to get them as big as possible before surgery if they can. There has been only one in the several they have had through their doors whose liver had not formed at all and didn't make it.
Their policy is also to raise the needed funds for treatment for as long as is necessary if the dog can have a good quality of life... so I can stop worrying on that score ( I was ready to empty my bank account last night when I talked to the vet) and Jas is holding her own at the moment (which I wasn't expecting after the way she was when I left her).
I will know more later when the vet has had a chance to x-ray her etc - they needed to stabilise her first.
Thank you for all your kind wishes - and please send us lots of positive thoughts xxxxxx

Re: foster baby coming to stay
Just pm'd you Lesley. I need to learn to type faster! That was what the vets thought Simba had at one stage, but luckily the tests all came back clear. If they have caught it early the prospects are good, so fingers crossed for Jas. Totally understand about emptying the bank account, been there, done that, got the t shirt!
Sending loads of positive thoughts and cyber hugs as you know.

Re: foster baby coming to stay
Thanks Sue - just replied to your pm and as I said in there I am not totally convinced it is that but I have been reading up and talking to the girls from the rescue who are all totally positive so am keeping my chin up
I have emptied my bank account on more than one occasion so I have the t shirt too and I will never forget the generosity of some friends either who when I was on my uppers and Precious was diagnosed with cancer, offered me a loan for the chemo for as long as I needed it. I didn't in the end because somehow I managed to find the money (toast is quite filling you know ) - but it was the thought and care of the people I knew - very much as I am finding now here - your care and support is so very touching xxx

OMG just picked up on this! The worry must kill you, I am shure I would be on whits ends. Hope she gets well soon
Re: foster baby coming to stay
Thank you everyone for all your kind wishes and positive thoughts. I am sorry to say that Princess Jasmine has lost her fight for life this evening - she had not responded to any treatment and the vet could not stabilise her enough for her to even face the tests needed to help diagnose her problems so we decided to put her to sleep. She was not in any pain as the toxins had already done so much damage that she was really out of it, she didn't respond to me at all other than to relax in my arms while I held her. It has all happened so quickly and I can't quite believe it has! Please forgive me if I am not around for a little while - Josh and I have to find a way through this xxxxx
Re: foster baby coming to stay

Re: foster baby coming to stay
Poor poor little Jas, maybe she was only meant to be here a short time. She found the best family to share that time with.

Re: foster baby coming to stay
On here for the first time in months (sorry about that by the way) and I am so so sorry that I missed all of this tragedy. I'm thinking of you and Josh Lesley, and sending all my love to you both. At least you gave the little mite a time of true love and happiness in the short time she was on this earth. Thinking of you.
