Sorted raw feed at last
After much reading about raw feeding and deciding which company to go with. I have bought from www.Berrywood.co.uk they had good reviews and variety. And also the postage was good at £4.99. I have ordered 2 boxes of 12 and 1 box of 25 all 454grms and paid £38.33 . So with 49 packs of food that should last them a while. I will also by some chicken wings and they are having veg as well. They are so loving it, I just hope it won't be short lived.

I am sure they will love it Carol
The breeder we got Daisy from goes there as it's not too far from where she lives. I wish we had a big supplier like that on our doorstep, would save on the p&p.

Re: Sorted raw feed at last
Hi Lyn well they have had Prize Choice Beef last night and this morning and that doesn't seem anywhere near as watery as the Prize choice Chicken, and it has all gone down extremely well. I eagerly awaiting my delivery tomorrow from Berrywood. I should get an email later with a tracking code which is good as I think DPD the couriers text you with a window as to with-in an hour of when they will be with you.
I am lucky we have a large freezer which is never full, I am always complaining why we bought one bigger than our needs. So storage won't be a problem. Tasha is eating as fast as Mali now I think she struggled eating kibble tbh. I will go to the butchers for some wings if they have them or can get them and some bones. And I want to get a big bag of mixed veg. My goodness it is as exciting as making our own foods. I just hope they don't go off it after all this effort.

Re: Sorted raw feed at last
Hi Carol, well that Prize Choice sounds good. I can get that from Kennelgate which is about 20mins from us but I think I have to get them to order it in. We are going there on Saturday to get some chicken pellets so I will see if by chance they have any in stock.
I haven't tried Daisy with chicken wings as I do worry they are too small and bony. She is fine with the thighs now that she has got the idea of chewing them.
We are also fortunate in that we have a fairly big fridge/freezer and also a stand alone upright freezer. I have about half of that full of food for Daisy. Today she is having the Natures Menu Chicken & Salmon as I still have quite a few blocks of that to get through, but she had a chicken thigh and the Natures Menu Banquet Nuggets yesterday.
When we took her to the vet on Tuesday for her booster she had lost a bit of weight. At her heaviest she was 5.8kg, then 5.6kg when she was speyed and now she is 5.4kg. The vet said her weight is fine but I don't want her to lose any more. I was worried it was the change in diet that has made her lose weight. However I then realised that since we lost Mishka our labrador we no longer pavement walk in the evenings. We now take Daisy in the car to the local park and she has a really good run around so I think maybe she is just burning up more energy so possibly needs more food. Last night she was running up and down a hill chasing a ball with a year old labrador and she was nearly as fast as him. I've never seen her little legs go so quickly
I did mention to the vet about the raw food, came away feeling very annoyed with him as although he said he would accept our wishes to raw feed he went on about how bad it is and claimed he had researched and that was his conclusion. He also seems very keen on annual vaccinations and we aren't, so I guess we will never have a good relationship with him after that

Re: Sorted raw feed at last
I wouldn't worry too much on daisy losing a bit of weight . I read somewhere that this happens when the go on to traw. I still think these vets have one thing on their mind - money- as regards
raw . I also am going to have Mali boostered in a months time as Parvo is prevalent in the area and becoming more widespread. If you log-on to facebook -I am on there too- go to Parvo Alert it will tell you where it is in your area.must go see you on here later.

Re: Sorted raw feed at last
It is strange but many vets themselves feed raw and there are many that advocate chicken wings which are NOT too small or bony Lynn so don't be afraid to feed them.
My guys are doing great on the wolftucker and the quality of it is second to none. They are both so contented now - the only snag I am having is it isn't defrosting in 12 hours in my fridge but have got into a routine of bringing a new pack out of the freezer in advance

Re: Sorted raw feed at last
I have brought back 20 chicken wings for £1.25 and a bag of lamb bones for free from my butcher, I could have had loads more wings. At least I know I have a ready supply from him.I reckon that is good value. All fresh of course. so I have spread them out on a tray in the freezer and I will bag them up later. That way I can take them out of the freezer one at a time. I was paying £2+ at Tesco for 14 chicken wings and not so much meat on them. They will have Nuggets tonight. Mali wouldn't eat her lamb bone when I gave them one each in separate places in the garden, I think they didn't want to be out done by one another. I was nervous at putting them near to each other. So Tasha ended up eating both bones.

Re: Sorted raw feed at last
If I take Daisy's blocks of food out and put them into the fridge they are still a bit frozen in the morning as I keep my fridge on quite a cool setting. However from what I have read a lot of people feed raw food totally frozen so I don't mind if it's like that and Daisy still eats it.

yes mine will eat it a bit frozen its getting it out of the box that is proving a bit of a challenge
Re: Sorted raw feed at last
I am eagerly awaiting my Dog Food from Berrywood. It is being delivered between 10.13 and 11.13 am. Mali didn't want her Nuggets this morning, so she should be ready for her food tonight. I will take one of the meals out when it arrives. I have never given mine any frozen food as I wouldn't like it myself. That is not to say they wouldn't. I don't really want to hear the mention of food after the lovely meal we had out last night. I was tempted to ask for a doggy bag for the duck but wasn't sure if the girls would like Brandy sauce all over it !!!
Re: Sorted raw feed at last
Just arrived now in the freezer . All well packaged with Polystyrene and one pack of 12 a little soft around the edges. I have got the freezer on Fast freeze for a little while. Looks very nice and dense . I suppose the proof of the pudding ie dinner will be in the eating. My we have a lot.

I am a pudding person and I've lost count of the amount of times I've taken a dessert out of the freezer that is supposed to be defrosted and started to eat it whilst partially frozen

I prefer frozen puddings frozen Lyn I always think they lose texture and taste once they are thawed ready to eat

Re: Sorted raw feed at last
I have given Mali & Tasha some of the chicken and they woolfed it down. So tonight they can have a normal meal of it with some veg.
I also bought some chicken with tripe I will try that at some point. My Freezer is nice and full now. I must say Berriewoods service was excellent. I was able to track the time of delivery which was good.

Re: Sorted raw feed at last
Tonight I gave them the Chicken mince with some cauliflower and peas that I cooked. And they loved it. I haven't seen Mali stay at her dish as long as she does with this raw food. They both ate every scrap. I was a bit concerned I had bought all this food and they wouldn't eat it, but no it was a great success. Tomorrow they are going to have a chicken drumstick, and maybe a beef dinner tomorrow night. They are now sound asleep.
Re: Sorted raw feed at last
I gave Mali & Tasha their chicken mince and cut off some chicken from a drumstick each. At the moment I am still weighing it out until I am used to the amounts. Tasha ate all hers but Mali didn't want hers so I took out the drumstick bone that was left and she has eaten that completely but still didn't want her other meal. That has gone back in the fridge. Tasha has eaten her bone also, I shouldn't have any trouble from them today. I told OH what they had eaten and I said this is going so well eating raw. Yes he said ' next step is go and hide it in the bushes, like proper dogs used to do' he is so funny at times.
