Question??? log in
Why do I have to log in several times during a session each time I come in?

Re: Question??? log in
I don't know Pat - I have the same problem too and I asked Debbie if she did and she said NO!!! So I thought then that it might have something to do with me playing about in different screens as I sometimes move into the admin panel etc. However, this past week or two it has been driving me MAD because every time I go to my pm box to answer or read a message i get logged out again.
I will have a nosey round on the help forum later and see if anyone else has had problems but when I asked my bro he said it was something to do with what program on the pc that was running the forum (can't say I understood him lol)>
Sorry xxx

Re: Question??? log in
It drives me mad, I have ticked the box for remember me yet I still have to log in on every visit, I can reply to a post and then have to log in again and lose all the text I have just typed. every time I clicked into the Tatton park topic last night it logged me out, I am getting a bit fed up with it as you can gather....

Re: Question??? log in
I have ticked the box to remember me, but it doesn't work. The only time I get logged off is if I've posted something on a thread and when I'm about to send, someone else has already added - if I don't copy what I've typed up, it logs me out and I lose everything!

To prevent being logged off when someone posts at the same time as you, you need to go to your profile and on the preferences tab where it says Display a notification when new replies are posted select the NO radio button.
The tick box "remember me" apparently is not to keep you logged in (I will try and find the section in the help forum where this is talked about) but it stops you being logged out when you move from page to page - if my memory serves me right.
So if the only problems are that you have to log in every time then I think that is how this forum works. (I know you can keep logged in on otl but not here). I will check it out for those of you who have asked and see what they sya.

Do you have more than one forum window open at one time?? That seems to be the thing that sparks mine off and as I usually need to have more than one window open when I am working on the forum it is pretty maddening.
The remember me box is not to keep you logged in between visits unfortunately but to keep you logged in between pages (apparently )
The other thing it doesn;t like is being left for a few minutes - if I get disturbed mid-post you can bet your life I get logged off the moment I click "POST"
I will make some enquiries but not sure anything can be done!
Re: Question??? log in
OK as I suspected there isn't much help for this and it appears to be a commion problem with phbb forums. One suggestion is to change browser to something like Firefox rather than IE.
Anyway a couple of other things you can try are to check your internet options and make sure that the privacy settings are set to medium or medium-high or to make sure your cache or temporary folders are emptied.
There is a text button on the home page that reads Delete the forum cookies and that is another thing to use regularly.
I have also resynchronised the forum and hope that might help too.
Thats all for now as I am really tired but try particularly the cookies button and see how that goes.

Re: Question??? log in
I have been idle on here for about 15 minutes while I was reading the not so helpful help files and I haven't been logged off once so I suggest you delete the forum cookies as I said above and see how you get on and NOW I am really going to bed
Re: Question??? log in
Deleting the cookies (and/or my resynchronising the forum) has certainly improved my connection and last night although I was moving from forum to admin panel and between forums I didn't get logged out once so hope it works for you too
Didn't I just speak too soon???
I have just replaced the links from the home page to see if thatimproves the logout situation too as they seem to cause problems as well. unfortunately this seems to be an age old problem with forumotion as there were lots of threads with people asking for help in thsi and not a lot of answers/solutions to the problems!!

Re: Question??? log in
fingers crossed then (but from what I read on the help forum it seems that it is a common problem and one that nobody seems able to cure and as we are on a free host there's not a lot we can do about it
Re: Question??? log in
I've just realised it only happens on my laptop not on my pc ? so i'm thinking it could be in my settings ? Will get my son to look when he visits.

Re: Question??? log in
I hope so but I find sometimes it is fine and then all of a sudden I go through a nightmare session where I am logging in more than I am on the forum
I GIVE UP - I can't click on either of the hyperlinks on the home page without having to sign in again and I am the blessed

Re: Question??? log in
No it definitely does seem to be better so fingers crossed it will stay like that for a while.
i don't think we can complain too much as we don't have to pay for the forum and it does pretty much everything we want it to
